Frequently Asked Questions
You Ask. We Answer.
This is a list of some of the questions that have been asked about the Rainbow Coalition of Waterloo Region (RCWR).
The Rainbow Coalition of Waterloo Region connects and empowers 2SLGBTQIA+ communities by nurturing relationships, uplifting grassroots leadership, and fostering inclusive spaces across the region. We work alongside others to build a future where all queer, trans, and non-binary people are safe, visible, and free.
There are organizations in Waterloo Region that are doing important and meaningful work with our community. RCWR’s intention is to complement those community-building efforts that are already underway. For example, some local community organizations are focused specifically on the needs of youth or university and college students. Others are focused specifically on leisure and recreation, creating local 2SLGBTQIA+ culture, and hosting community events.
To our knowledge, there are no organizations whose aim is to bring together all segments of the Rainbow community specifically to focus and collaborate on advocacy, awareness, community-building and increasing inclusion.
The Rainbow Coalition of Waterloo Region does not provide any direct services to the community. RCWR acts as a catalyst and mentor to help other 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations get started by providing a community web page, an email account, the ability to schedule their events on our community calendar, and access to the wisdom and guidance of the volunteers at RCWR.
RCWR also hosts the pride dance in June, outreach events, community conversations, and OutReach Socials. See the community event calendar for scheduled RCWR events.
The Rainbow Coalition of Waterloo Region is a local non-profit run by unpaid volunteers in a virtual only capacity. RCWR does not have a physical space available to the community.
The Rainbow Coalition of Waterloo Region is supported through grants, individual donations, and various fund raisers. RCWR is a non charity non profit and as such cannot issue tax receipts for donations.
The Rainbow Coalition of Waterloo Region is always looking for volunteers to help on the board of directors, on committees, and for specific short term and long term volunteer activities. If you would like to explore volunteering please check out our volunteer page.
