| Project Overview | The Leadership Advancement Committee is a committee appointed by the Board of Directors of the Rainbow Coalition of Waterloo Region (RCWR). Members of the Leadership Advancement Committee serve as a bridge between the RCWR Board and the broader community. Created by/for those who identify on the 2SLGBTQIA+ spectrum who want an accessible way to get involved in community organizing, the Leadership Advancement Committee acts as an enabler for building queer leadership capacity in Waterloo Region. The Leadership Advancement Committee performs the following specific functions within RCWR’s structure: In alignment within the Corporation’s Bylaws, advise RCWR on community needs and provide feedback to the Board of Directors on process and direction. Advocate for transparency as outlined in RCWR Accountability Framework Assist RCWR in building grassroots 2SLGBTQIA+ engagement in Waterloo Region, including resource mobilization, community organizing, networking, and learning opportunities. Provide guidance on how RCWR can create meaningful mentorship and networking opportunities for the grassroots organizations and leaders that RCWR is directly supporting Facilitate collaboration and communication between RCWR and various 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations, groups, and individuals As per the RCWR mission, vision, and values, all our work seeks to foster a strong and inclusive Waterloo Region that is respectful of the diverse interests within the Rainbow community. We believe in applying an anti-oppressive lens to our work and expect the Leadership Advancement Committee to assist the Board in ensuring our work aligns with these values. The first iteration of this group in 2024 will participate more directly in RCWR’s 2024-25 Strategic Planning process (note: the community-at-large will also have an opportunity to participate). There will be ample opportunity for Leadership Advancement Committee members to learn about non-profit governance and contribute to RCWR’s projects and strategic direction. The Leadership Advancement Committee works with the Board of Directors to develop shared priorities. |
